Not Long to the National Weekend

4pm Saturday 19 August to 1pm Monday 21 August 2023

Join us for a 1Voice AAC Festival of Film!

Our 2023 national residential weekend will take place at Treloar College in Alton, Hampshire, GU34 4GL. Treloar College is a specialised centre for physically disabled children and young people making the weekend accessible for all.

This year we are holding a 1Voice AAC Festival of Film. There will be activities for all levels of communication throughout the weekend which will revolve around watching, making and talking about films.

You can get an idea of what we get up to by watching these videos made at our most recent national weekends.

1Voice supports families and individuals building connections with others. Our focus is on creating opportunities for people to get together and have fun and to gain knowledge and support from those further along in their AAC journey. Although the activities for younger AAC users are designed to encourage communication skills, our purpose is not to conduct ‘therapy’.

The weekend involves activities for AAC users, activities for siblings and workshop sessions for parents. Some people like to request a volunteer, or bring a PA to support the AAC users to access the activities. Other AAC users attend with their parents. Parents who will be supporting their young person in sessions and not accessing the parent workshops, pay a reduced price.

1Voice volunteers are skilled at supporting AAC users. However, our volunteers are not able to perform personal care or assist with feeding and drinking.

The event is open to residential stays as well as day delegates. As always we welcome new AAC users and their supporters as well as familiar faces. Our national weekend events cater for all ages and all members of the family, as well as assistants, speech and language therapists and other interested professionals.

Details about the venue and accommodation

Treloar College is a specialised centre for physically disabled children and young people. There is level access and widened corridors throughout making the venue and accommodation accessible to wheelchair users, including powered wheelchair users. All of the rooms we are using this year are en-suite and have overhead tracking hoists in the bedroom/bathroom. Profiling beds are available for those who require them but please request one at the time of booking. We are able to add a second pull-out bed in the majority of the rooms to offer twin accommodation.

Unfortunately, the College is unable to supply us with shower chairs/trays as these are student specific and are not left in the rooms. Therefore, you will need to bring your own.

There are a number of changing place toilets in the main building which will have use of during the weekend.
