Changes & Updates

After joining 1Voice as a Trustee over eleven years ago, and supporting us as Company Secretary for ten years, Jo is taking a well-earned step back from her employed role in the charity.

While we are incredibly sorry to say goodbye to her, we are hugely grateful for everything she has done for 1Voice. Her accountancy and secretarial skills have been invaluable, while her dedication and flexibility have helped the charity reach its 25 year anniversary!

Without Jo, national residential weekends would not have been possible. From fundraising to make these events viable, to the complex coordination of rooming and resourcing, her coordination has made them happen.

As well as her professional skills, Jo has brought her personal experiences and passion for AAC, as parent of an AAC user. She has been the driving force behind the parents’ chat, organising and running these to help connect other parents into the community.

Jo said “My first experience of 1Voice was on my daughter’s eighth Birthday, when my family attended our first national weekend. We didn’t know what to expect, but the whole weekend was fantastic (although I will admit to shedding a tear or two!). The national weekends became a key part of our year and seeing what a great impact the charity had on my daughter, I was happy to get involved as a trustee. When Julie had to relocate back to the States, I offered to take over the administration/Company Secretary role. After ten years, it is time for me to pass the baton onto someone new. I have enjoyed my time with 1Voice immensely and have made many friends. The support network for my whole family is something we will continue to benefit from and I look forward to seeing 1Voice continue to thrive. Thank you to every single person who makes 1Voice so special.”

We’re delighted to know that she will not be disappearing entirely and will continue to be involved with 1Voice informally. So we can look forward to seeing Jo and family at events, even though her formal role within the charity comes to an end.

Thank you Jo from all the Trustees. You have been amazing!
