25 Years of 1Voice - Tell us your story

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first 1Voice event. We would love you to get involved by sharing your memories and telling us how being part of the 1Voice community has impacted on you, whether you are an AAC user, parent, family member, volunteer, professional, role model, or a professional.

Kate is the first to help us celebrate 25 years of our wonderful community - one she has been part of since the good old days!

“The wonder of growing up is dreaming what would you be like when you are big but if you are singled out by having to learn to use a computer to talk while most of the people around you can say anything they want, by doing nothing you start to feel ‘disabled’ and different and why should you work hard to learn this gadget that singled you out so much?

But when you come to 1Voice you arrived into your own world where you can see your dream coming true and you could become anything you want to be and you aren’t disabled and you are just 1 of the gang.

I find it wonderful, me born in the 80s has influenced children like me (having communication aid and probably in wheelchair). Then when they got to teenager year they made big difference to kids born 2000s, then now we are seeing people like Oli being superstars, changing what society think of people like me.”
