5 Ways to Support 1Voice

  1. Support a Branch

Lakes & Bay

This long-standing branch has 3 or 4 meet-ups a year in the Cumbria/Lancashire area.

As its currently run single-handedly by Helen Dixon, we’d love regular volunteers to support with any of the following:

  • welcoming and signing people in at events

  • helping Helen book venues

  • helping Helen promote events on socials

  • signposting new families / AAC users

  • fundraising to pay for venue hire etc

2. Become a Trustee

The 1Voice Trustees are a friendly team of volunteers who collaborate to steer our charity, make decisions and ensure we are doing the best job we can for our community. No previous experience neccessary, just passion for our mission and a few hours a month to spare.

We are seeking people for the following roles:

  • Parent- Carer Trustee

A parent to help us connect other parents navigating life with AAC. We currently run six online hour long parent sessions a year. These are informal chats where we share experiences and tips. Could you help with this? You would need to attend some of our monthly Trustee meetings and the online sessions so this is likely to work out at around 2 hours per month. There is plenty of scope to develop new ways to connect and support parents for those who would like to do so.

  • Fundraising Trustee

We would love someone to focus on fundraising. Currently Trustees share this responsibility. We have examples of previous successful applications; London Marathon places for the next two years and some great things in place, but are looking for someone to lead our efforts. We envisage that this would work out at around 4 or 5 hours some months, and much less at other times.

  • Role Model Lead Trustee(s)

We would love someone, ideally an AAC User with experience of Role Modelling or being a Mentor, to head up 1Voice role model activity, connect our role models and explore/develop opportunities for them to raise awareness and support other AAC users. Establishing regular communication with role models and developing effective ways for them to share their lived experience and skills to support 1voice members would be a starting focus for this role.

3. Volunteer Your Skills

Want to help but not sure whether you want to be a trustee? You can volunteer your time and skills without the full commitment of being a trustee.

Maybe you could help with fundraising, role model activity, online events without the full responsibility of being a trustee?

  • Run/ contribute to a one off event or workshop (online or in person) for AAC users, parents or professionals

  • Support us with our socials, newsletter or website

  • Researching and sharing information about accessible venues for future events

  • Signposting to new families and championing our events - new families can be nervous to come along so a warm handover/welcome can be helpful

  • Do something you love to raise funds for 1Voice? A plant sale? cake sale? coffee morning? or any crazy idea you can think of?

If you’d like to help or volunteer your time/ experience to support 1Voice, we’d love to hear from you: alison@1voice.info
