1Voice Yorkshire and North East Branch meet up.
York Leisure Centre, York, YO32 9AF
Saturday 27th June 2026
Come and meet us (AAC users, their supporters, and volunteers, including me - Frances) on Saturday, 27th June, from 2-4pm, at The Cafe, York Leisure Centre, Kathryn Avenue, Monks Cross Dr, Huntington, York, YO32 9AF.
This is a casual meet-up for people who use or are thinking about/working towards using AAC, their families, carers & friends (of any age or support need, regardless of diagnosis).
We'll be meeting in the cafe are, you'll be able to spot us from the main entrance. York Leisure Centre is fully accessible with plenty of disabled parking spaces, as well as a changing places and disabled toilets on site. We are meeting for an informal chat and catch up. I'll bring some simple table top games if anyone fancies them. Feel free to bring your own game, toy or anything that makes you feel comfortable or you like to chat about.
Why not make a day off it and go shopping at Monks Cross Shopping Park beforehand, go for a swim in the Leisure Centre’s hoist accessible pool or have a game of bowling just around the corner.
You'll know you've found us when you spot the A4-sized 1Voice logo on the table. I’ll be the one with the black t-shirt that says ‘Trustee’ on the back and ‘1Voice’ and ‘Frances’ on the front. I've volunteered with 1Voice for many years now and I work with AAC users, and you can see more about me here: https://www.1voice.info/trustees-1
People come to 1Voice branch events for all kinds of reasons:
To meet other AAC users - especially our Role Models who are experienced AAC users.
To chat to other parents and carers and share their knowledge and experiences.
To ask for advice and support from others with real lived experience.
To make friends, feel seen and heard.
To be part of a community.
There’s no pressure to use your AAC, and you are welcome if you don’t have your own AAC system yet. There's no pressure to share anything, unless you want to. If you feel a bit nervous or anxious about coming along, or want more information, you can email me (Frances) on frances@1voice.info and we can have a chat about it. We’re really looking forward to seeing you there.
