Role Models

It is incredibly hard work to learn to use alternative communication. Our team of Role Models successfully use AAC in their lives and act to inspire children at our events as well as raise expectations of families and professionals. They also help to run 1Voice as volunteers or trustees.

Gregor Gilmour

Gregor has been a member of 1Voice since it was established in 2000, became one of our first teenage role models, and has gone on to become a volunteer and adult role model. In 2016 he joined the board of 1Voice trustees. Gregor spends a lot of his spare time mentoring and empowering other young people who have communication difficulties.

Gregor’s hobbies include boccia, curling, wheelchair football, watching football, drama, horse riding and scrabble.

Gregor says that 1Voice is a good way to meet people who have similar issues to him and that he has made lots of friends over the years.

Gregor was awarded the Young Person of the Year Award at the 2017 Shine a Light Awards for his sheer determination at improving his own life chances as well as others across the region. The awards are run by Pearson in partnership with The Communication Trust.

Please come back later to meet some of our other current Role Models.
