POSTPONED - National Residential Weekend 2020 - A Weekend of Celebration

31/07/2020 - 16:00 to 02/08/2020 - 13:00

Portland College, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire NG18 4TJ.

Update 6 April 2020: Unfortunately the weekend has been postponed due to the current coronavirus pandemic. The decision has not been taken lightly and follows discussions with the venue. The current high level of uncertainty makes it incredibly difficult to plan the event and the overriding concern is the health and safety of all those involved. The most prudent course of action at this time is to postpone the event. It is too early to set a date for another weekend as there are many factors to take into account. Those registered for the event will be informed about the next national residential weekend as plans develop. Stay safe.

Update 16 March 2020: Registrations for the weekend are almost full. If you would like to come please complete the registration form as soon as possible. We are currently working on the assumption that the weekend will go ahead however, we are closely monitoring the Government advice concerning the current coronavirus pandemic. The next trustees' meeting is on 1 April 2020 and it is hoped that by then, the situation will be clearer, and a firm decision can be made about the weekend. All those who have registered to date will be contacted shortly. Invoices have not yet been issued.

We are looking forward to holding our national residential weekend at Portland College. The 2019 event was our biggest to date with 148 people being involved throughout the weekend, including 37 AAC Users. It was really great to meet so many new families and we had 12 AAC Users experiencing a 1Voice event for the first time.

This year we are really excited to be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the first 1Voice event and we are inviting you to join us for a weekend of celebration. There will be activities for all levels of communication throughout the weekend. Parents' workshops and siblings' activities will run alongside the AAC user workshops.

The event is open to residential stays as well as day delegates. As always we welcome new AAC users and their supporters as well as familiar faces. Our national weekend events cater for all ages and all members of the family, as well as assistants, speech and language therapists and other interested professionals.

The 2020 prices are detailed below and remain the same as the previous two years. Prices are heavily subsidised for all attendees and we are delighted to be supported by BBC Children In Need.

The trustees are keen to ensure that no child is excluded from the event due to cost alone and there is a small number of more heavily subsidised places available, on a first come first served basis, for families who otherwise would not be able to attend. Further information can be found in our Funding Policy which is attached at the bottom or alternatively contact Jo at

Whole weekend (Fri-Sun):
AAC Adult £ 100,  AAC Child £75,    PAs £ 75,  Siblings £75,   All other Adults £150

Please note children under the age of 5 are free and where a parent is acting as a PA for the weekend, the PA rate is payable. A parent is considered to be acting as a PA where they are supporting their child in the activities rather than attending the parents’ workshops which will run alongside the AAC user activities.

Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis and some places will be reserved for families new to 1Voice.

Applications close on 30 April 2020 at 23:59.

At the beginning of the registration you will need to state how many places you want to reserve (e.g. 4), complete the initial information on the booking name/contact details, then proceed to add first person, and then ADD ANOTHER x 3 so that we have all the details of all the participants.  If you do not have name for PA, then use AAC user's last name and PA1 for first name, PA2 for second one, etc.
