24.12.09 Research Request
"My name is Laura-Jayne Watson and I am currently in my third year of study in Speech and Language Therapy at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). The undergraduate research project which I intend to conduct is looking at parents’ perceptions of the quantity and quality of support and information that was available to them during their child’s transition between AAC modalities e.g. light-low tech, low-high tech. I would like to interview parents regarding this whose children are between the ages of 8-15. If you fit this criterion and are interested in participating in the interview, an information sheet and consent form is available by clicking here. I would greatly appreciate it if you could complete and return the forms to the speech therapy clinic at MMU (address on the information sheet)."
19.12.09 1voice Lakes and Bay had a Christmas party. There were 31 people there including 10 who use AAC and their families, carers and friends. We had puzzles and quizzes to do, pass the parcel played Boccia and had lots of good things to eat. Father Christmas sent a special representative who also used AAC and gave all the children a present.
"My name is Pippa Bailey, I’m a PhD student at the University of East Anglia in Norfolk. I am studying the story-telling interactions of pupils who use computer aided speech or high-tech augmentative communication with their teachers. I am looking for individuals ideally aged 6-16, who use a communication aid based around a tablet PC, e.g. a DynaVox or Tellus device, within the East of England (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & London)." AAC users would need to be confident in producing 3-4 word phrases with their device to complete the story-telling tasks for the study. If you are interested or would like some more information please contact:

10.05.09 It was with shock and sadness that we learned of the death of our family member and young volunteer, Katie Gallagher, in January this year. Katie was an enthusiastic attendee of our Blackpool events, and was always the last on the dancefloor! Our thoughts are with Katie's parents, Joy & Keith, and with her brothers and sisters. We will always remember Katie's smile, sense of fun and desire to be involved in everything!
A family friend, Michelle Santhouse, is running the Manchester Run 2009 in memory of Katie. We are very grateful that Michelle has chosen to donate her sponsorship for the run to support 1Voice. Please sponsor Michelle by clicking on the "Donate Now" button at the bottom of this page. Every penny and every pound will be put to good use in supporting children who use communication aids.
Thank you for your support.
