Merry Christmas 2018 from 1Voice

Our supporters raised over £400 last year by sharing our 1Voice Christmas message and making a donation to our Christmas Campaign instead of sending Christmas cards. This year's message will shortly be shared on our social media. If you would like a copy of the message emailed to you directly please get in touch with Jo at info@1voice.info. You can donate to our Christmas Message Campaign here.
1Voice are delighted to have received a grant from BBC Children In Need towards the cost of the three annual national events taking place between 2018 and 2020. The event taking place in 2020 will mark the 20th Anniversary of the first 1Voice national residential weekend and the plan leading up to the anniversary is to hold the events in different geographical locations and to promote 1Voice to as wide an audience as possible to ensure that we are reaching all families who would benefit from our support.

1Voice are incredibly proud to announce that they were a highly commended finalist for the AAC Award in the Shine a Light Awards 2016/17. The Shine a Light awards are run by The Communication Trust and Pearson Assessment and are designed to celebrate excellent practice in supporting children and young people's communication development.
Congratulations also to our Trustee, Gregor Gilmour, who won the Young Person of the Year Award. One of our young members, Charlotte Seth, was a highly commended finalist in the same category.
NHS England has published a new guide (pdf file) on how Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services are organised, with the aim of improving access to these services for all patients – children and adults.
AAC services help people communicate as effectively as possible when speech is impaired, and the guide is aimed at anyone with an interest in how they are provided.
The guide describes how the commissioning of these services is organised between “local” AAC services and “specialised” AAC services, as well as what those services offer and how they are accessed.
The guide (pdf) is freely available at https://www.england.nhs.uk/commissioning/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2016/03/guid-comms-aac.pdf
