Check out what the kids in Sheffield have created !
If You Listen To Me, I’ll Listen To You
A group of disabled and non-disabled primary school children
have made an upbeat yet hard-hitting DVD, exploring the different
ways in which we communicate with each other and
the importance of finding ways to involve and listen
to ALL children. An accompanying booklet supports
the DVD, giving professionals more detail on the
issues raised and practical ways of involving and
listening, to both disabled and non-disabled children.
The Children have devised 6 essential standards for service providers to follow in order for them to deliver a fully inclusive service for all.

Research

Story Telling

"My name is Pippa Bailey, I’m a PhD student at the University of East Anglia in Norfolk. I am studying the story-telling interactions of pupils who use computer aided speech or high-tech augmentative communication with their teachers. I am looking for individuals ideally aged 6-16, who use a communication aid based around a tablet PC, e.g. a DynaVox or Tellus device, within the East of England (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & London)." AAC users would need to be confident in producing 3-4 word phrases with their device to complete the story-telling tasks for the study. If you are interested or would like some more information please contact:

Transition Between AAC Modalities

My name is Laura-Jayne Watson and I am currently in my third year of study in Speech and Language Therapy at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). The undergraduate research project which I intend to conduct is looking at parents’ perceptions of the quantity and quality of support and information that was available to them during their child’s transition between AAC modalities e.g. light-low tech, low-high tech. I would like to interview parents regarding this whose children are between the ages of 8-15. If you fit this criterion and are interested in participating in the interview, an information sheet and consent form is available by clicking here. I would greatly appreciate it if you could complete and return the forms to the speech therapy clinic at MMU (address on the information sheet).
